Ships that pass in the night...
An interesting (and useful) website set up by Ryde shipping enthusiast Tony Richardson which displays real time shipping movements in the waters around the Isle of Wight. Take a look at www.ais-live.co.uk

ORP Blyskawica - 4th May remembrance ceremony
FRIENDS of the ORP Blyskawica once again met at the parade ground in Cowes to commemorate the anniversary of the Blyskawica's defence of the town in 1942.
Built by J.S.Whites in 1936 the Polish ship returned to Cowes in May 1942 for a refit and whilst there defended the town against an attack by a large force of German bombers. Only the presence of the Blyskawica and her unwavering anti-aircraft fire prevented the town from being destroyed.

The ceremony was also
in remembrance of another Cowes built ship the ORP Grom which was also the ORP Blyskawica's sister ship. In 1940, the Grom was in the Narvik area of Norway where she was sunk by German planes with the loss of 59 Polish sailors.

Also announced at the ceremony was the taking to Poland of a tapestry in honour of the Polish soldiers who fought in Italy during WW2 to take the monestary at Monte Cassino. The tapestry is the work of Roy Dennis who was at Monte Cassino serving in the Royal Artillery. Mr Dennis watched as men of the 2nd Polish Corps. were mown down in their attempts to take the German stronghold. The monestary was eventually taken but not before 1,000 Polish soldiers were killed and many more wounded.

A 2nd revised edition DVD commemorating the ORP Blyskawica and her defence of Cowes should be available at the end of June 2008 - if you would like to be notified on its release please e mail info@asppod.tv or contact the Friends of the ORP Blykawica Society.

We're supposed to be local interest...
IT'S a funny world. You provide a website channel for local use and get visits (and returns) from all over the globe - we're not complaining. Last month, (besides the UK) we had visitors from Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, Australia, France, South Africa, Canada, Germany, Greece, United States, India and Japan.

It's not our fault...
THERE has been quite a bit of feedback regarding the ASPpod.tv channel with most of it being very complimentary. One complaint (which we fully understand) has been that movie items sometimes 'judder' or stop and start. This isn't down to our service but is likely to be your broadband provider. All of our movies should playback very happily at broadband speeds of between 900kb/s (0.9meg) - 1000kb/s (1meg) - if you (theoretically) have a 2 meg or higher service you should comfortably be playing back our programmes. However, you may find that problems occur at peak times when your line speed may drop to as little as 700kb/s (.7meg) - we suggest that you mention this drop in speed to your service provider. In the meantime view items at 'off peak' times or halt playback to allow the item to buffer onto your system first.
